Elizabeth Tate MA, LPCC, LCMHCA
Hi, my name is Elizabeth! My pronouns are she/her, and I’m thrilled to introduce myself and Misty Mountains Counseling, PLLC. I am excited to welcome you on your therapeutic Hero’s Journey! I am a nerd, geek, and gamer myself and welcome using these stories in our sessions together as a way to understand your life experiences.
I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Sociology from Appalachian State University with a concentration in Social Inequalities and a minor in LGBT Studies in August 2016 (graduating Magna Cum Laude). I went on to earn my Master’s of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in May 2019. I worked in an university counseling center and a primary care practice before striking out in private practice.
My theoretical orientation is based in psychodynamic counseling. This means I’m interested in how your life experiences have made you the person you are, and how we can heal the experiences that may have caused pain. I am passionate about providing culturally aware and responsive mental health services to a diverse clientele, including gender-affirming care.
I work with individuals (age 18+) and people in relationships on issues including, but not limited to:
Anxiety
ADHD
Depression
Bipolar Disorders
Emerging Adulthood & Life Transitions
Identity Exploration & Expression
Gender-Affirming Care
School Issues
Relationship Issues
Self-Harm
Suicidal Ideation
Trauma
Open Relationships & Non-Monogamy
Many of my clients experience marginalization including racism, sexism, ableism, transphobia, homophobia, and other oppressions. I welcome the naming of these forces in the therapy space and am happy to explore identity, privilege, and oppression with you. I am a white, cisgender, and queer counselor and I encourage you to consider if you are comfortable with a counselor holding those identities, among others I can disclose at your inquiry. I am committed to anti-racism and practice white accountability actions including ongoing study and regular contributions to BIPOC-led mutual aid funds. (If you have questions about this, I’m happy to elaborate!)
